Jacqueline's Iris

Here we go. This is my latest oil painting and I like the way it turned out. I usually like to paint from my own references but this time I got some help. This painting was "completed under the direction of Jacqueline Gnott's dvd". What a privilege to be guided by such a wonderful artist.

Inner Glow

What is it you do that lights you up inside?.....I can definitely say "painting" does it for me. I painted this glowing flower from a picture this time. The picture was taken by Thom Brommerich brilliant photographer. I have enjoyed painting this gorgeous flower from start to finish. I felt a warm feeling deep inside me when the painting was finally finished. Hope this painting lights you up in some wonderful ways. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Back in OZ

I am back home in Adelaide Australia. Great to see that spring has sprung. I feel like painting some flowers. Perhaps some close up views. Anyway, I do have several ideas. All I need to do now is to go to my studio, stretch a few canvases and.....paint!

On Vacation

I'm on holiday at present. I have been to Israel and Jordan. I'm in France right now and am going to Italy in the next few days. I will be back to Australia in about 2 weeks. After  this long break, I'm looking forward to painting again. Cheers! CD.

Finding the way

We all have at times difficulties in life. So what is there to do? Finding the way!.....More often than not, just listen to your heart. This kangaroo is about to find his way. On a lighter note, is it just me, or is this kangaroo trying to stick his tongue out..... at life? You tell me!

Quick Update

Just a quick update to show the progression of my latest oil painting. Still a work in progress as you can see. This is the second layer with colours. I have not yet put any colours for the vase and the sticks. There will be a third layer with darker and lighter colours and some lovely red glazing on the flowers to finish them off nicely. It is going slowly and I am enjoying the process.  This is rather challenging for me but I guess this is why I love it so much.

Not finished yet! Getting there slowly.

If you are wondering what I have been up to?.........this is the painting I have been working on for......weeks and it is progressing very slowly. I have had many interruptions, such is life. As you can see, I am in the process of finishing the "grisaille" stage and I should be able to start putting the colours in the next few days. However, I am going away to Sydney, for a  conference this coming week end so I will have to put my brushes away......and this painting is still far from being completed. Anyway, as far as this painting is concerned, I am making the pleasure last....or is it a way of procrastinating?
I wanted to post this, even if the painting is not finished yet. It shows how much work goes into each piece I create. There are no shortcuts and hopefully this painting will be finished soon.

Ski in the French Alps (photograph from Mageriaz)

I have been away for quite a few weeks......visiting family and friends in Paris and the French Alps and also doing some skiing in the magnificent French Alps in Savoie. That was simply wonderful and exhausting.....in a very good way.
Now back at work but more importantly back in my studio where I started painting again. It took me some planning to get me going but I am now getting back into the enjoyable and sometimes frustrating process of oil painting. I am working on a painting at the moment that seems to be testing my abilities as a painter/artist. It is difficult to explain but it is a bit like a relationship. One must work at it to make it work and that is what I am doing at the moment. Luckily there will be a finished painting in the next few weeks.

Zen Callas

I did this painting feeling......Zen! and am happy with the blue vase and the shadows. Painting always takes me to places......in my head that is. But like any travel, one must plan the journey and sometimes nice things happen, just like this painting. I do like this one a lot.

PS: Thank you SweetBaby from WetCanvas for the reference image.
